- LION The "King of the Jungle" can reach 500 pounds and live in small communities or prides with upwards of 30 creatures. Female do most of the hunting; the males, usually no more han two per pride, defend their territory.
- LEOPARD The smallest of the big cats, the leopard roams the savannas in Africa. Unlike the lion, it hunts at night to avoid competition. Tha leopard can reach speeds of up to 36 miles per hour.
- BUFFALO A huge, cow-like animal with massive curled horns, th Africian or Cape buffalo lives amid the savannah and lowland forests, with the biggest herds in the Masi Mara. The male can weigh up to a ton.
- BLACK RHINO The second-largest mammal on land behind the elephant, the rhinoceros gets its name from the Greek rhino (nose) and ceros (horn). Large males are known to weigh more than 6,000 pounds.
- ELEPHANT The only remaining survivor of the ancient "trunked" family of mammals which included the extinct mastodon and mammoth the elephant is the largest animal on land; the biggest recorded stood 13 feet high and weighed 22,000 pounds.
